Roku or Fire TV Stick Not Working? Check Power, Input, and Wi-Fi
A blank screen, no signal message, frozen logo, or buffering streaming stick can come from different parts of the setup. Check them in this order.
Quick answer
Start with the TV input and the streaming device’s power source. A “No Signal” message usually means the TV is on the wrong HDMI input or the stick is not powered; buffering usually points to Wi-Fi or the internet.
Try these checks in order
Match the TV to the correct HDMI input
Use the TV remote's Input or Source button and select the HDMI port where the streaming device is connected. Note the port label before moving cables.
Use reliable power
Connect the streaming device to its supplied wall adapter when possible. Some TV USB ports do not provide enough steady power and can cause restarts or a frozen logo.
Restart the TV and streaming device
Unplug both from power for 30 seconds. Reconnect the TV, then the streaming device, and allow it time to boot.
Check the HDMI connection
With power off, make sure the device or HDMI extender is seated firmly. If another HDMI port is easy and safe to reach, test it and select that new input.
Separate a Wi-Fi problem from a video problem
If menus appear but video buffers, test the Wi-Fi on a phone in the same room. If the screen says No Signal, focus on power, HDMI, and input instead.
Update from the device settings
When menus are available, use the built-in system update option. Do not install unofficial streaming apps or software offered by pop-ups.
Stop troubleshooting and get the right help if:
- The TV is mounted where the HDMI ports cannot be reached safely.
- A connector is bent, loose inside the TV, or hot to the touch.
- A message asks you to call an unfamiliar number, pay to activate a device, or share a code with a stranger.
